Shelly has been an athlete her whole life. She grew up in a small town where playing sports was what everyone did. Shelly continued playing basketball and track in college in Ohio while her biology degree allowed her to fall in love with how the body works. Shelly continued her education by attending Los Angeles Chiropractic College. While in school she worked as a personal trainer and soon found herself easily applying her vast knowledge of bio-mechanics and the way the body moves and works to her clients and had amazing results through her training methods. Once, she graduated she opened up her own personal training studio in Los Angeles and began developing her own style of training and bodywork.

Shelly was introduced to CrossFit in 2007 by Kristan Clever and soon started following the main site WODS. After a shoulder injury (labrum tear) and opting not to have surgery, she thought her days of CrossFit were over until she started doing mobility and stability work every day while slowly getting back into CrossFit. She is proof that despite injuries or limitations you can still CrossFit! Shelly also loves triathlons, playing basketball, hiking and pretty much any sport you want to throw at her. She has several major sports accomplishments in running a marathon, half ironman, several half marathons and in college her basketball team won the NAIA National Championship.

My name is Hope Benton and I was born and raised in Franklin, North Carolina. I graduated from Western Carolina University with a bachelor in Environmental Health. I moved to Asheville after college looking for more opportunity and fell in love with my husband Caleb. We live in Hendersonville where we own Benton Roofing. We have been blessed with a little boy Isaiah and another little one on the way. I have always loved fitness whether it was gymnastics, track, cross country, cheerleading, or weight lifting. In college I took a very big interest in lifting in the gym and when I moved to Asheville I joined local gyms but felt I was still missing something. So I joined Crossfit HVL when I moved to Hendersonville three years ago and it’s made a world of difference in my fitness level and ability. I received my Level 1 cert two years ago and love being able to coach such a great community of people as well as train along side them.

My name is Terran Smith. I’m 25 years old and I have been a member of Crossfit HVL for 5 years now. I’m originally from Hendersonville, I’m married, and I have a son named Luke. I am a registered nurse and I work full time at Pardee hospital in the ICU. I LOVE snow, my favorite holiday is Christmas, I enjoy the outdoors, and I love all food!

I recently moved to North Carolina from Florida. I have been doing crossfit for 4 years and have had my level 1 for a year now. I have two amazing children, my son 9 and my daughter 6. I work for Publix full time and enjoy being able to live in this amazing area. I’m extremely passionate about CrossFit and self development and look forward to being able to help others grow and learn.

I’ve been doing CrossFit for about 6 years and have been a member of HVL since day one. Before CrossFit, I went to traditional gyms but found I wasn’t as motivated as I wanted to be. I instantly knew after my first CF class that this was what I’d been looking for. Crossfit has transformed me physically as well as mentally.
I decided to become a Level one trainer to deepen my knowledge of all things Crossfit and help this community that I love. When not at Crossfit I’m spending time with my wonderful family or working as the Head of Packaging at Burial Beer Co.

My name is Tristan McCrary. I am 19 years old. I have always lived in Hendersonville. I am currently in college but have a passion for health and fitness! I have been a member of CrossFit HVL for 4 years. I love doing bikini bodybuilding competitions and have a passion for exhilarating things, outdoors, and of course food! My favorite WOD’s are Nancy and Kelly, and my favorite movements are walls balls, box jumps, and running.

I am Judy Nutwell.  My husband and I moved here from Maryland 4 years ago.  I joined CrossFit HVL a month later and have never looked back.  I did gymnastics up until college and have always been involved in some type of fitness.  But CrossFit is by far the best fitness program I’ve ever done. I love the variety, the challenge and especially the supportive community.

I am passionate about health, nutrition and trying healthy recipes.   God gave me a healthy, strong body and I want to care for it while encouraging and motivating others to be the best they can be.

My favorite CrossFit moves are the ones I have yet to accomplish!   It keeps me challenged and striving towards a goal.

I was born and raised in Henderson County. I was never active growing up and always struggled with my weight. In high school when the scale hit close to 200 lbs I knew things had to change. I got the weight off, but I still was not active. I started with a personal trainer and started running 5K’s which got boring very quick. When I found out a CrossFit gym was coming to town, I was so excited. That first WOD is when I knew things were going to change. I was instantly hooked by the push CrossFit gave me. I have grown so much stronger in the last 5 years and learned so much about myself. CrossFit gave me confidence and an awesome community of friends. When I am not at CrossFit you can usually find me with my four-legged children (I have 3 rescue dogs and 2 rescue cats) or on my mountain bike.

My name is Tommy Kendrick I’ve been doing CrossFit for about four years. I love getting into the gym and pushing myself to see the best that I can do! I played sports growing up and was very competitive with myself, I always told myself I can do better!! I love watching and motivating others who have a passion in working out. My favorite WOD is “Murph” for what it represents. My best workouts are body weight movements. I love to eat lots of food, and hangout with friends and family on my rest days.
